Hi
I started with spray tanning too. I was taught with Fake bake which i continue to use and siennax. The girls are right, there are alot of tanning solutions out there so do your research and see what works for you. As far as getting your kit sorted it will be quite costly. Your solution you're looking at around £100 for a light and dark solution. A tent is around £100, plus you will need your gun, i spent £180 on mine as it was the best for mobile tanning and you may want to consider the use of an extractor fan £200+ if you are going mobile because to clients house and it helps reduce the particles in the air (and residue left on their surfaces). Then there is disposable pants, sticky feet, moisturiser, hair caps,e tc... And then you need something to carry it all in! Sienna-x do quite a good starter kit.
It is definetly not a get rich quick scheme. It can be very hard to get clients through the door, even if you are mobile. I've recently moved to a new area, 3 months in and still no spray tans. It is popular, but not as popular as you may think in some areas.
And then with your makeup course (i did this too...) you then have to start your kit. You will need to spend approx £100 on a decent set of brushes and another £100-£200 on makeup to get you started but will need to add to your kit until you have all the products you did. Even with make up you need disposables like head bands, mascara wands, pallette, lipstick scrapers, etc... The price goes on and on!
And finally after all that you need insurance at around £80 a year! Oh and a uniform at around £30-£80
Then there's your business cards, website, flyers, promotion material, advertising.
I also did a nail tech course. Put it this way i have been working for about 7 months and have so far spent around £2000 on training, stock, insurance etc and nowhere near breaking even :-S
