Hi This is my first post.

I have been made redundant from my job and am looking to start into the beauty industry. I want to start a mobile tanning business. Can anyone suggest who to go with and what products are the best. I am also starting my training in two weeks to become a make up artist. Fingers crossed. Thanks for reading.

Hi there, i am also just starting out i have read lots of good reviews for Tantrick and have decided to go with them. Good luck to you x x

Welcome to the site.x

I think you need to do as much research as possible. What one person likes another may hate,we all have different opinions. There have been many, many threads on what are the best tanning lotions, make up,make up brushes, nail polishes...the list goes on lol.If you do a search you can read lots of different opinions but you need to see for yourself, especially if this will be your lively hood.

I would email or call as many different companies as possible and try out the samples. Some you can get free and some you have to pay a small amount for.Google will give you loads of options as well.

Please dont think it's a get rich quick option,it takes a lot of work to succeed in this industry. You may even have to get yourself a part time job whilst you're building up your tanning business because there is an awful lot of competition out there and people wont be queueing up for appointments as soon as you qualify.
HTH a little. xx

I too am starting up a mobile tanning business. I have been looking into Siennax, Tantrick, Nouvatan and La Tanning. A trainer from Siennax is coming by tomorrow to talk to me about their products/brand and to do a spray tan for me so I can see for myself. They have also sent me out a few samples of their bodywash/lotion/sunless tan lotion. I will let you know how it goes! I am also attending the Flirties lash training next week. They were extremely helpful. I am excited! I thought that a tan and lash mobile business would be something fun, and it is not really offered in my area. Give the different companies a call and ask questions..you'll get a good idea, plus this site has been a huge help for me. best of luck to you!

I purchased my start up kit (Celebrity: Go Mobile Pro) from EnvyTan. I have to say I am so glad I did. I did a lot of research before I did it and they had the best prices and the most inclusive kit. The products are fabulous and the customer service is by far, the best I have ever seen. I would definitely look into them.

Hi Everyone. Many Thanks. I am going to see some equipment and speak to the training person soon. I live in Northern Ireland and no one within 30 miles does the mobile tanning. So fingers crossed this will be a nice earner. If you think i need any more helpful info, all welcomed!!!!

Good luck all the newbies like me

i just wanted to say that offering beauty treatments really isn't a get rich quick type thing. the amount of money that courses (and products/equipment) cost mean you have to do a good few treatments to make your money back before you actually start making money. but firstly you have to get them clients to come to you which could mean you spending out even more money on things like advertising (other things to think about if you are serious are things like business cards and loyalty cards etc. which all cost money) and having a website made. it's not just about actually spending money either it's also about practising (which of course takes time) to ensure that when you do start tanning paying clients that they get a great (don't settle for offering a good or average treatment). so it's def going to take time before it's a a 'nice earner'.

as far as choosing who to go with that's all down to your preference. there are many brands who each have their own selling points. have a search on google and choose your faves then do a search on here and see what the feedback is like from people about that brand/training. don't forget though what works for one might not work for another, but by doing a search you will get an idea of what product delivery is like etc, peoples experience with customer service and aftercare etc.

when looking for training email companys and phone them up - speak to them and get a feel for the way they handle your questions and their manner. another thing to bare in mind is how much the products cost/how good value for money they are. what is included in the training/starter kit (just because company a is cheaper to train with than company b it doesn't mean in the long run company a is cheaper). don't forget to look at their marketing - some companys offer free marketing which is absolutely fabulous! another thing to look at is the retail products - is there money to be made on them? what kind of retail products do they offer? does the brand and the brands colours fit with your business and the image you want for it?

reguardless of what brand you choose just make sure the training you choose will enable you to get insurance :D

Hi MISSCONFUSED

Thanks so much for your info. Everyone here is very helpful.

I have done lots of market research and looks like no one else is offering this service in my area. So fingers crossed. I am determained to make this work. I have just been made redundant from my job in procurement in a construction company. And due to the recession have decided to try something new. I am also taking a course starting in two weeks to train as a make up artist. Its a very prestige course so very lucky to get on it and very excited.

Thanks again for your advise. you all are very kind in helping me out.

;)

it's super exciting seeing all the courses and products available isn't it? it's kind of addictive seeing how many courses you can do haha. you'll never know until you go but it doesn't hurt to 'go' with extra knowledge :D x

I am addicted at the moment trying to thing of business ideas! I am a hard worker always have been and def dont want to be laying round doing nothing. So im getting into things i am pasionate about. will keep you all updated. Now to raise the cash for it all.

It looks like £499.00 plus Vat is the usual price for training and kit. Does anyone know of cheaper. this is fake bake and sienna x. Also how would i go about insurance and how much should i budget for this. Thanks again

i paid around £800 for my kit with sienna not including vat. i have my sienna training next week :D their customer service is fabulous!

google search for insurance and phone and ask them how it all works. i've spoken to beauty guild, babtac and salon gold so far and i have been honest and said i've not got a clue what i should be looking for and asked for their advice. at the end of the day everybody is going to be helpful and give you information as they of course want you to spend your money on their products and promote their brand by using it, it's then down to you when you have the information to use your judgement to decide what best works for you. i'm sure though that somebody else with much more experience than me will come along and give you plenty of advice :D

Hi
I went with Sienna X after seeing them at a trade show..Have to say they were offering the best deal.
I got the Maxi Mist Machine, 1 litre of 8%, some pairs of sticky feet and disposable pants + the tanning tent for GBP269.00. The cost also included the training course....oh and also some disposable hair caps!
You cannot beat their customer service either!!!

Hi

I started with spray tanning too. I was taught with Fake bake which i continue to use and siennax. The girls are right, there are alot of tanning solutions out there so do your research and see what works for you. As far as getting your kit sorted it will be quite costly. Your solution you're looking at around £100 for a light and dark solution. A tent is around £100, plus you will need your gun, i spent £180 on mine as it was the best for mobile tanning and you may want to consider the use of an extractor fan £200+ if you are going mobile because to clients house and it helps reduce the particles in the air (and residue left on their surfaces). Then there is disposable pants, sticky feet, moisturiser, hair caps,e tc... And then you need something to carry it all in! Sienna-x do quite a good starter kit.
It is definetly not a get rich quick scheme. It can be very hard to get clients through the door, even if you are mobile. I've recently moved to a new area, 3 months in and still no spray tans. It is popular, but not as popular as you may think in some areas.

And then with your makeup course (i did this too...) you then have to start your kit. You will need to spend approx £100 on a decent set of brushes and another £100-£200 on makeup to get you started but will need to add to your kit until you have all the products you did. Even with make up you need disposables like head bands, mascara wands, pallette, lipstick scrapers, etc... The price goes on and on!

And finally after all that you need insurance at around £80 a year! Oh and a uniform at around £30-£80

Then there's your business cards, website, flyers, promotion material, advertising.

I also did a nail tech course. Put it this way i have been working for about 7 months and have so far spent around £2000 on training, stock, insurance etc and nowhere near breaking even :-S

gosh you didn't have to write it all down and scare us all with the costs that we have paid out! haha. wow. it looks so scary seeing everything wrote down!

with regards to companies for tanning I also have looked into sienna x and recieved an email reply from them straight away and they were really helpful, I also seen in babtac vitality magazine that sunjunkie are very good. I had a fakebake tan a few years ago at olympia beauty show but had an allergic reaction so tend to avoid there products now.

For insurance I have looked at BABTAC, The beauty guild and Professional beauty Insurance but its best to ring around for quotes and read the small print.

Business cards in the long run may be easier to get software and do it yourself. Vista print are a con, they advertise free 250 business cards but by the time you have designed them how you want they are not free and the postage costs and times are ridiculous. for express 8 day delivery i think it was £21 shocking! there are other companies that do business cards but they are fairly pricey too.

websites- i designed my own website with getting british business on the web, it was free of charge for 2 years with a .co.uk domain, easy to set up and edit.

with make up artistry I think it essential that you have a really good quality set of brushes and high quality make up, the kits you normally get on courses arent that great unfortunately :-(

la beeby are great for uniforms and also Salon Tunics | Salon Uniforms Beauty Wear | Page 3 | Health and Beauty Wear are really cheap to start you off.

hope this helps and good luck
