Hi all, I need help!!! I am training at the moment and did a set of Gel nails 4 days ago, they were my 10th set. Firstly they lifted quite badly, then three nails broke off and she is complaining that they are realy unhygienic as dirt keeps getting caught between her natural nail and the tips and she has asked me to remove them ASAP! I am completely gutted as they looked amazing when I finished and I thought they were my best set, all my other models have been delighted with their nails. I am scared stiff of taking them off as so far things couldn't get much worse......can someone please give me a run down on getting them off without damaging her natural nails. I am training with Young Nails and use Synergy Gel system.

P.S. I didn't charge her for them.

Hey as far as i've been taught gel nails need to be buffed off using a grit file then reducing to a 180 grit file then a white sanding block to finish as the nail appears to be getting thinner take care when almost reaching the natural nail as a very thin layer should be left on so as not to damage her natural nail (this thin layer will remove itself through washing hands etc) If you have used nail tips then these can be desolved in acetone but the gel overlay must be buffed off..

Hope this helps you

While I agree with most of what you said, I don't quite agree with the higlighted above. I don't think it removes itself by washing hands, it rather grows out with the nail.:) Correct me if I'm wrong...

her natural nail and the tips
When you mention 'tips', did you actually apply tips or are you referring to 'the tips (free edge) of her nails?

If you applied tips, you can cut down on removal time by clipping of the artificial tips first and then buffing off the remaining gel (assuming it is a buff off gel and not a soak off?)

If buffing, work carefully and try to leave a neat thin layer of gel on the natural nail which will eventually grow out.

If you remove all the gel, change from a course grit file to a finer grit as you get closer to the nail plate.

Just another thought..... you may wish to go into Nail Tutorials on here and look at Geegs tutorials on file control.

Click avove on Navigation.......click on Tutorials..... then click on Maintenance and Finishing Nails. Geegs tuts are in there. Worthy of a look. Good luck.

I did apply tips so clipping them should save me loads of time. The Gel I use is a file off system. Thanks for all the help.
