I have been thinking of taking a NVQ level 2 in Nail services through the Carlton Institute and thought I had pretty much made up my mind to go ahead. However, since looking on here it seems that people are not a big fan of the Carlton Institute and instead prefer specialist brand training, can anyone tell me if this is a better substitute for the full, formal NVQ qualification?
I also understand that a 5 day course is not going to leave me a fully trained nail tech, but again, is this really as much of a bad idea as everyone seems to be making out??
Has anyone undertaken this actual course that can give me a bit of advice???

hi ther. im fairly new to all this so i apolagise in advance if i babble on.

my sister recently did a nail course with the carlton in stockport in her nails are fab! i would never go anyway else for my nails now. she did gel n acrylic.

i also did a waxing course, lash n brow treatments, spray tanning n manicure & pedicure. all my courses was also great except for waxing which i am not really that confident with doing an eyebrow wax. however i think that is my problem, not the institutes. HTH.

Hi,

Re: Quality Nail Training useing recognised quality products.

I,ve been in the industry for many years i've taught level 2 & level 3 nail technology at local colleges. I now teach for NSI Uk Ltd, I can highly recommend their quality products & training.

You can do the Acrylic foundation in 4/5 days - this includes anatomy, health & safety, prep, pick up & placement, structure, zones, tip & overlay, sculpt, maintenance & marketing/business building.

The sudents have to pass a written examination, produce a portfolio of evidence to a strict criteria for tips, sculpt & maintenance etc.. And also attend an assessment day with a model & produce sculpt, tip & backfill. A score sheet is used to mark the practical work.

This qualification is well recognised in the Nail Industry, The Guild, ABT etc..
& fully insurance based.

For a good quality training i highly recommend NSI.

All the very Best in your new career, you'll love it!
