Help with permanent hair dye and semi permanent dye!

Good afternoon hair geeks.

I am just popping over from the beauty side to get a bit of help with my hair
I am naturally a mousey brown and have only dyed my hair 3times myself, going slightly darker brown each time. This last time I dyed it it is basically black!
My roots are growing through, and i don't want to dye it this same black again, can i use a semi permanent hair dye on just my roots to cover my re growth whilst i attempt to grow and fade out the very dark brown black permanent?
Or what would you suggest?
Any tips on how to fade the permanent colour out? Wanting more of a brown chocolate!

As your not a hair professional we can't recommend what to use, maybe pop to a salon as it sounds like you need a colour correction

When you do just explain what you are trying to achieve, tell them what you have done and how many times and maybe show them a pic of what you want ?
