Hi Guys,

Not sure if youve read my previous post but heres a quick recap....

i rent a room above a hairdressers and have done for a year and a half, had ups and down with being busy but taken a (small) wage from wk one bonus!

The hairdressers are having a refurb down stairs so ive decided to have a re decorate too and suggested a re lauch opening day.

well here goes ...we only have one sink upstairs in the kitchen, i dont have one and nor does the toilet (h & s have said they need a sink for sure in the loo and ideally one for me).

we have a small waiting area up stairs the hairdressers wanted to make it in to an ear piercing room, but its proving difficult to put a sink there. so the hairdressers have said theyare putting one in my room cos its easier, and that when im not busy or not there the hairdresser can pierce ears in my room.

well surely if i pay rent on that room that i have exclusive rights to that room, because my dilema is if she was using my room and one of my clients walked in i couldnt do it so therefore i would be losing monay.

i wondered if im right for starters and if so i dont know how to go about saying this without come across harsh.

thanks in advance
kels xx

It's a tough one, probably the best way is just to be straight to the point, you culd ask if your rent will be staying the same after you are losing part of your work are ie the waiting room, or ask for a chat over a coffee with the owner, and just voice your opinion, I agree that if you are paying rent on this are that it should be for your sole use, unless an agreement is madeotherwise, after all if you wanted to start using an are of the hairdressers, I am sure it would have to be disussed, beter to get it sorted out sooner than later, that way everyone knows where they stand, hope it all goes well for you, would love to know how it goes hth x ruth

Hi Kels,

Unfortunately, I think you need to be blunt and explain to the salon owner that you're, just, not happy about the situation. If you pay a weekly rent for your room, then it's yours to use and no body else's. You cannot have somebody else making a profit in the room that you're paying for!
