My name is Lauren and I'm a nail tech student in North Florida. I was recommended to try here, because I have questions and I really just wanted to talk to nail techs out in the field.

I started in early December, and my program should be finished by the middle of February. I'm fine with manicures and pedicures for the most part. I haven't really done any art because OPI nail polish isn't really suitable for that. I'd someday like to learn about airbrushing. What sort of polish do you use for nail art? I was told by my instructor that I could use those pop-cap acrylic paint sets, but I haven't tried anything yet.

Acrylics right now pose some kind of problem for me. I get a bunch of air bubbles, and I think this is due to contamination or I'm using the wrong ratio of liquid or powder. I use a Kolinski point brush, and would like to get an oval brush soon. I think I get a little bit better each time I do them, but clients who come into the school almost expect perfection and it can be discouraging. It almost makes me want to just work on natural nails, but I know I can't give up now. My confidence just is wavering because I can't get the product to work the way I want to, and I feel like I'm too slow. I hope by the end of my schooling it'll get better and I'll improve.

That's pretty much all I have to say for now.. but thanks if you respond to this, I need all the advice I can get. :)

Don't be discouraged hun, You have not been training that long! how many sets all up have you done? I know that It took me about 20-30 full sets and re-balances before my nails were of a very good standard. Just keep trying and asking questions and you can do it!

I've done about five full sets total, and they take me absolutely FOREVER to finish. I also kind of have a problem with the shaping.. they look more squoval when I try to just do square. I feel like I'm using my zebra file wrong and/or I'm overfiling due to nervousness.

Thanks for your words.

Every nail tech I have talked to (myself included) usually say it takes almost a full year to get consistent and get your time down. Don't worry, be patient and it will come! The point on the kolinski is what makes awesome smile lines, keep up the good work, relax and above all have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:hug:

Hi I qualified in July and still feel confidence wobbles all the time, going to take me a good while more as well I think, stick inthere and it will come, I think it's beter to take longer and make a good job than to hurry and make mistakes, its all learning experiences , and us newbies can only stick in there and learn from them, good luck, keep the chin up and here here to enjoying it and having fun learning!!! xxxxxxxxxxxxx
