Hi Geeks

For those who work from home - particularly if you use a garage or garden building/cabin, did you notice an increase in your building and contents premium? Ours jumps up over £200 which I think is pretty steep or is this about right?

You also need to have public liability for members of the public entering your home for if they trip or fall whilst on your premises . This is in addition to your separate treatment liability insurance. There are many insurers that offer business from home policies but most are not suitable for a home salon and do not include cover for accidents involving clients whilst on your premises. I got mine from Salon Gold then I have treatment liability from professional beauty. And yes it is a couple of hundred pounds extra than I paid before I had the salon.

Have a look at Balens for a quote for home buildings and content insurance. They are a specialist company and worked out at a good price when I was looking earlier this year. Don't forget to get permission from your mortgage provider if you are working from home.

Thanks guys. I have my public liability through BABTAC and am good to go from my mortgage and council (been working from home for 8 months).

I will try that company you suggested - just want to get the premium as low as possibly whilst being covered sufficiently! xx
