Im almost at the finish line with my nvq level 2 and I will do lots of home practice before I go out into the industry after that. But I really need an electric file course because I have hypermobility in my joints, so constant manual filing of acrylic or fibreglass causes my fingers to "lock" while im filing, leaving my hands and finger joints aching and very uncomfortable. Its usually after the 5th finger im filing that my hands start to be in pain

Please can you recommend me an accredited course for electric filing only, as my local authority now requires me to have licence. I have everything else covered under my nvq level 2 (acrylic, gel, sculpting pink +white, fibreglass/silk and mani/pedi) any advice will be appreciated

Hi there! I can recommend the efile course run by Young Nails.

They use and sell a file called the MT20 Erica and it's marvellous.

I found the course to be really in-depth and the "I-formation road map" method makes it a breeze once you've mastered it.

Hope that helps x

Each borough is different so this may not be true where you are.

BUT in the boroughs my businesses are in they do not accept private accredited courses unless the training is so specialist that there isn't a nationally recognised external qualification in it.

As an efile qualification is part of a level 3 nail services NVQ it would not qualify for exemption & one would need the nationally recognised qualification to be covered.

So be careful that you are 100% certain they will accept it before wasting a large sum...

Also, regarding your underlying concern, have you been taught how to properly hold/control your files?

Unfortunately a lot of courses don't bother much on filing technique & RSI as a result of poor technique is all too common. I realise you don't suffer from this - but my point is if you have an underlying issue that affects your joints filing technique/positioning is something you need to be really vigilant about as it could be exacerbating the situation needlessly :)

I live in central London if thats any help

I found a 3 month level 3 course which is all based on using the electric file to create nail extensions. It is acredited by The Guild and other ITEC recognised insurance companies. I would love to do this if it will qualify me fully in using an electric file. Its only £300. I do see the issue with going to only one 2 hour electric filing workshop as they can be dangerous and I feel like people need AT LEAST 2 weeks learning to e file. Another option is that I found a level 3 nvq in haringey which has e filing in the learning criteria but the problem is I don't have 1,500 pounds if it's not fully funded. Ive attached two pictures just so you get the rough idea

ITEC sounds promising then.

It's handy they offer it is a modular option as I don't think you can do this module as a standalone NVQ unit - but perhaps you should double check with VTCT just to make sure there aren't more options.

As long as you choose a nationally recognised qualification with a set syllabus & external examination you will be fine.

But, for instance, the young nails course would not be suitable.

This is just my curiosity... I thought an NVQ level 2 covered 1 type of enhancement product over tips, mani, pedi & nail art. Whereas an NVQ level 3 covers 2/3 enhancement products, sculpting etc. So I was just wondering what the full title of your course was/examining body? I always like to keep on top of what's available!!

Its a VTCT NVQ in nail services. I made sure the course covered everything I needed before I enrolled as I don't like wasted time. My course is at West London college and I think they do the course on only two campuses, but im not sure as I've never checked! I think the modules have changed most definitely over the years as I heard nvq level 2 only covered mani and pedi at one point. I did have to do 5 months of digging around before I found the right course though. Ill be taking a level 3 nvq at some point but not immediately after I finish this one as I can't really afford it. Im gonna do more research on that 3 month e filing course and enrol in that first then see if I still need the full level 3 nvq :D ive actually found 3 colleges so far in London that offer nvq with the e filing.
