hi there peeps. i'm still training to become a nail technician and then i am hoping to go on to be a mobile nail tech, so very new to all this. My main question is how do i get started with Nail Art. I love doing it, as I have the basic pens but obviously you cant do all that much with them. Do i need to do a course in it. And is it popular? Also how do you do courses in specific artificial nails e.g acrylic. please help x

with regard to nail art I got a few books, but never got round to doing any... so I went on a course which literally was a day of "playing" with different techniques. All of these were shown in the books I have (Pansy Alexander's, K-Sa-Ra and a great one I got off QVC:o ) but the course gave me the time away from the salon to sit and play, and now I'm hooked!!

have a lookat Christie's website from Hawaii. it's a hive of inspiration and she's just starting a fab tutorial site, you'll find it on www.christiesnails.com.

At the end of the day there are no rules where nail art is concerned so dive in and have a play!!

Your query ref l&p(acrylic) is a hard one, and everyone on here will give you so many different answers depending on what they use. However Creative seems to be the most favoured, followed by EZFlow etc etc. So you could do a search for l&p education!!

Hi Jo, as Sassy Hassy said, it's a case of playing around with different ideas and techniques. I haven't done a course for nail art but will probably be booking up soon for an airbrushing course. I love nailart because there is no right or wrong answer, that's why it's called art! And the freedom and variations of designs and ideas are endless! The first nail art book i brought had from very simple designs like striping and dotting to more elaborate ones such as airbrushing, marblising, water and foil decals and nail charms plus freehand stuff. To get started why not try the simpler ones to get the feel for it, that's if you're not naturally creative which i'm sure you will be! Plus you know some of the simplist designs can be the most striking! Well that's what i tell myself anyway! Lol!Oh and regards to your L & P (acrylic) question, if you have a search-up on course centres in and around your area, it should help you find the best option. I think there is a schools listing on either the Professional Beauty website or the Beautyserve site. Or alternatively if you have already decided on the company you would like to go with, go directly to their site and they should have course dates!

Ive just replied to another post on how to start in nail art, hope that helps.

It is worth doing a course as you will get so many ideas, inspiration and techniques, but so many techs self teach and get on great. It really depends on how creative you are!

The main thing is; less is more, dont go OTT and have fun!!!!!!!

NAIL ART IS ONLY LIMITED BY YOUR IMAGINATION!

i have those pens and i know what you mean when you asy you are limited they are a bit tricky, i have just purchased some acrylic paints (just need to get hold of some brushes now) and i was thinking about going on the spangles nail art course its 1 day and is about £50 i think just for a play and some ideas.

Hi Jo,I didn`t do a nail art course, just practiced on tips stuck on a pencil with blue tack.I don`t use nail art paints just ordinary acrylic from art shops (about £1)and get my brushes from there also.If your brush isn`t fine enough just snip a few hairs off with scissors.good luck,Daryl.

thanx to you all for your advice really appreciate it. I've already done the false nails on blue tack trick and did come up with some funky designs that I do love. I just feel there is alot more to be creative with like the acrylics but didn't know how easy it would be. I'm worried the courses will be a waste of money but think I might go for the spangles day course as the airbrush is really pricey! I'll look into the sites you've adviced and let ya know how I got on. cheers x x
