Is it possible to get paid commission while you're also being paid for the hour?

I work in a salon where I get paid by the hour. I do have opportunities to make commission where I have to double my hourly pay in services and anything after that I get 50% of. So if I were to get paid $200 a week, I would have to do $400 in services before I start getting 50% comission.

I am going to start bringing in my own nail equipment: files, buffers, acrylic system, uv gel with light, pushers, dappen dishes, implements, brushes, etc. The onlys thing I would be using of the shops would be: the sink, table, nail polish, and towels. I live in a state where renting space is illegal for nail techs and cosmotologists. Do you think it's fair if I start asking for 50% commission for all nail enhancements while still being paid for the hour? I would say manicures too but I think that's being too nit-picky because there isnt much of my product being used. Or should I request to go "off the clock" for as long as I'm doing the enhancements and only get the commission for that part of the day? Would 50% commission be both fair to me and the salon?

I am not a salon owner or manager so I'm not sure about these kids of things.

Yes.

In some States in the US, an hourly rate is compulsory before commission can be paid.

It would pay to check with your local chamber of commerce with this, but regardless, I'd get your new agreement checked too.
