Ok so after setting up and sending out price lists etc I have started to dread nails! I don't mind mani & pedi with a bit of nail art but find it easier to paint on l&p!
The problem is I don't really like doing it! It took me 2 1/2 hours the other day to do a go fast set! (similar to tip & dip) the client was happy I most certainly was not! I was so embarrassed!

Anyway my question is would it be worth dropping nails from my offered services and concentrating on the things I really enjoy like facials, massage and microdermabrasion?
Even though I have more call for nails? It's basically my bread & butter!
Do I work harder at getting my times down or let other salons have the nail custom and I concentrate on skin? We have a couple of popular nail only bars but I would worry that I would be giving other custom away to!

Have I just answered my own question?! Lol

Oo tough one!

If your other services are suffering because of the nails, for example, no time to advertise hence less customers, eating up your day so no time for the customers, then I'd probably say drop it And focus on what you love!

I would loose your skill though, so maybe do friends, family and existing clients nails to keep you busy whilst skin picks up and to keep you in practise so you can always fall back on it :)

Just my opinion I hope it helps. X

You sound just like me lol! I detested painting nails at college, finding it boring and time consuming. When I set up my own business, I dropped it from my price list and decided to specialise in advanced facials, peels, microdermabrasion and non-surgical facelifting. I still do all the Level 2 treatments as well as body massage which I enjoy doing.

I did recently think about nails again, especially with new generation of semi-permanent nail gels and polishes but although the initial prepping and painting is speeded up with UV and LED lamps, there is still all the boring removals to do 2 weeks later. I know that nails are big business but they just don't float my boat at all and in my area there are nail bars who are prepared to charge less than me.

Therefore, I will NOT be offering nail treatments (although I will paint toe nails as part of a pedicure). I don't regret it and find myself increasingly busy with all the treatments I enjoy doing and make plenty of profit from.

I figure that as I'm self-employed, it's up to me what treatments I offer. There will be those who will say that you are wrong not to offer nail treatments but I can't see the point of doing treatments you really don't enjoy and which make your heart sink whenever anybody books in for them!

For me, deciding to specialise as well doing a few other body treatments is keeping me very busy and resulting in plenty of repeat business!

Hi

Instead of dropping it completely how about adding 20% 25% onto your price? You might loose some of your nail clients but that way if someone new or existing does book in for it at least your being well rewarded for it!

I'm in the same boat, although for me it's facials. I just find them immensely boring and end up feeling like they are rushed. My clients rebook so they obviously don't think that. I'm thinking of just using what stock I have left and then dropping them. Gotta have some perks being self employed!

Instead of dropping the nails, why not get some specialist one to one training and improve your times and skill - you will probably find it is a whole new ball game and enjoy it more, whilst still keeping all those lovely clients that you can sell your favourite products and services to.

I was exactly the same when I started out.

Hated manicures at college, but thinking that I should do nails, I trained with NSI, still hated it, I don't just do nails, I do facials, mda, eyelash extensions as well as the Level 2 & 3 treatments and didn't feel confident in doing nails at all and was thinking about taking them off my price list when I decided to give it one last go and did a conversion course with CND.

Can't say it was a revelation, but what it did bring me was PopIts, the beautys just clicked with me and it took the dread out of having the phone ring with clients asking for acrylics. Then came shellac and between the two I have just got better. I would still do my acrylics with PopIts if I can, but do infills and rebalances by hand with no problem.

I think in the end I just relaxed because the pressure was off, so maybe don't discount it all together, think of bringing something in that will keep your hand in so you don't lose the ability all together and maybe in time you will enjoy doing them like I now do.

Thanks girls, I'm not going to give it up all together I just don't think I will go into any other nail treatments yet like full l&p or gel.
I will try and push my other treatments forward and see how I go, I really enjoy nail art though so need just practice I think and try and offer nails as more of a sideline and push my main business xx

How about hiring a nail tech? Or getting a self employed nail tech to rent the table. That way you don't have to do them and concentrate in what you enjoy but also you are keeping the clients in your salon and not losing them to other nail bars. A nail tech coming in might bring new clients to the business for you to prompt other treatments to!

can i just say i get my eye brows and waxing done by a mobile beauty thearpist and she does not do nails because she does not enjoy it and she is allways fully booked and if i want my nails doing i go else where but would never be tempted to ditch my mobile thearpist for someone who does whole package because i love the shape she gets my eyebrows in to, so i think it must be possible if she has done it xx
