I was trained to remove the shine from the natural nail using a Koala buffer (240 grit) but have often wondered if a white block would be as good. I'd certainly find it easier to get into the corners IYKWIM.

I'm pretty sure I've read on here that some don't even remove the shine.......correct me if I imagined it.

Could someone clarify for me please ?

You must exfoliate the nail plate to remove shine. If there is no shine (ie when a set has been removed etc) then there isno need to exfoliate again.

White blocks are not sanitizable and tend to absorb oil and moisture ... they are therefore not considered a suitable alternative for doing the job of exfoliating the plate. They are contaminated after the first time you have used them. Unless you want to throw them away after each use (or after you have used the 4 sides) then I would stick to the routine you have been taught.

Many use them and many have lifting problems because of it and don't even realise it.

White blocks are 240 grit as well so will be equally as efficient at removing shine, BUT I believe not all white blocks are sanitisable so best to check with your distributor......

Thank you, that explains it perfectly:)
