Hi All
I have just made an appointment (from my sick bed-ive got the flu) for Laser Hair Removal for my chin and upperlip. I have PCOS and one of my main symptoms is excess hair (who would be a woman!), I have tried waxing, tablets, creams and all the usual methods but none work long term and im really so fed up with it. Its got to the stage now that I have to pluck them every morning and by the time I come home from work I can feel them again! Ive become obsessed with them now lol. It does get you down, Ive too much hair on my body but the hair on my head is flippin fallin out! Cant win.

Ive read over previous threads which were helpful but I really wanted a professional opinion if it would work well on me as my hormones are all over the place.

Thanks for your help xx

I don't do laser hair removal but I would think hormonal growth may mean that you have to have more sessions to remove them all but I think the face takes the longest anyway due to the pattern of the hair growth cycle. I can't see that it would affect the results beyond that. I am interested to see someone who does this treatment answer this.

They should be able to discuss this with you at your first appointment x

In very very simple terms, when you have PCOS, your eostrogen levels can decrease, resulting in androgen (male hormone) levels increasing. This is why you can suffer male pattern hair problems. I don't do laser, but I do loads of electrolysis, and to be honest until the PCOS has been resolved, or at least controlled efficiently, I wouldn't bother with permanent hair removal. Until your hormones have been sorted out, the hair growth will probably just return anyway.

If someone out there who does laser knows differently, then apologies.

Hope this helps, and hope you are getting some medical help with the PCOS - so many doctors seem unwilling or unable to help. One of my clients was told the best thing to do would be get pregnant!

Yes apparently in some cases when you have a baby it can rectify your hormone levels but I doubt I'll be having any babies just yet lol. My pcos is undercontrol without any meds, just a drastic change in my diet. My hair loss isn't too bad thank god.
Thanks for your help x

Hi, Victoria,

My daughter has PCOS - but got pregnant first time and is now almost 33 weeks pregnant with our first grandchild! Although she did lose her first baby at 7 weeks which is a side effect of having PCOS - apparently there is a higher risk of miscarriages with this condition. But, pregnant very, very quickly on both occasions.

She also wanted laser hair removal and the salon said that if she gets a letter from her doctor, she will only have to pay 50% towards the treatment. Just thought this might help if you decide to go down that route.

A lot of women have varying decree's of PCOS. For all women with the conditions its seems the best thing you can do to balance the hormones is to follow a high protein/low carb diet, try to remove sugar from the diet it has an impact on hormone levels, this includes cutting out caffine as well. For hair removal electrolysis is the only answer since it destorys the follicle completely, make sure you see some one who specialises in electrolysis. If you get a chance try to get someone who has the Apilus, more effective with quicker results and more comfortable to have done. Good luck

I have a laser client with it and until the problem is reloved, the haor will keep growing. Mind you she prefers to have it done, she sees it like waxing instead. She gets about 8 weeks out of it so she says it's the best thing she's had done. It's an expensive way to do it though
