Can anyone help me find out (with evidence) how many layers of the skin a topical cream penetrates and that compared to a Galvanic treatment?
Thanks

There are so many variables, such as skin condition, level of current, size of molecule etc that you can't really answer the question! It must also be remembered however that it's not a case of how many layers, the main issue resides with just one barrier - the stratum corneum & lipid bilayers, which are the main obstacle. The following might be of some use:

Iontophoresis, Sonophoresis, and Microneedles Permit Effective Transdermal Delivery of Biologics - - BioPharm International

Treating Damaged Skin

And in comparison you might like to look at sonophoresis (using ultrasound) - I personally use both methods:

Sonophoresis

Thats really helpful thanks Martin.
I am actually writing an article on Boots No.7 Protect & Perfect and the interest it gained when BBC aired their Horizon documentary.
Im trying to find evidence to prove the creams are not as effective as a salon treatment and I need to add a bibliography to prove Ive got the evidence to back up my theory.
Im just doing the structure of the skin now and want to give the two sides of how the creams cannot penetrate as well as a treatment like the galvanic.
Hope that makes sense.
