Hi geeks,

I would be grateful for any advice that you may be able to offer me.
I am due to qualify approximately ,June in nvq in level 3 beauty therapy. I already possess ITEC holistic massage with Credit an level 2 beauty.

Our college has not really provided us with any solid careers advice, apart from suggesting that I do the foundation degree in holistic therapies. This is something that I am interested in pursuing at a later date, but not now. At present I am really eager to gain some practical experience in the industry!!! and learn from the professionals.

What sort of steps do I need to take? I have a CV prepared and have made a list of salons, spas in my area.I a already starting to panick.

Many thanks

Sarah

I really want to work in a spa or holistic salon type environment

I think you have answered your own question!!

Dress yourself up smart, CV's in hand and visit each of those places you have on your list, ask for the manager and sell yourself! If they are not there ask to make an appointment to return.

Good luck!

I completely agree with lemmonie, get as many cvs out there as possible, and ask the salons/spas to keep them on file, then if you don't hear anything ring around as many places as you can find. I had the same trouble when I finished my level 3, and had to send about 80 CVs out, but it all paid off in the end. As for the foundation degree, im in my first year of a spa management degree, and its fantastic, but definitely try to build up some experience beforehand!
If you don't have any luck for a few months just stick at it and keep practising your therapies and treartments on friends and family so that you keep your foot in the door and you'll do the best treatment when it comes to your trade test.

Good luck :)

Thank you for your advice,

Regarding a CV shall I state each topic that I have undertaken, i.e. electrical facials: direct and indirect high frequency, CACI etc. Or is it sufficient to just put down that I am currently doing level 3?

PUt as much info as you can. It will show you understand what your education has given you as well as demonstrating a professional approach to your industry.

Can you get any client refrences or any employer ones. Prehaps a personal recommondation from a tutor?

I could get a personal recommendation from my tutor. Also, do youknow of any specialist websites Ive looked at Leisurejobs and hairandbeautyjobs.

I suppose that I jus need to get out there!!!! be positive about it all.

Start handing out CVs. Its nearly the end of the college year and other students would be looking for jobs as well.... That is if you want to work for someone instead of being self-employed. Maybe you can even do both. A bit of self employment and also work for someone.

Goodluck. X

Cheers ADIVA,

I would love to be self employed, but at the moment I can't drive, this is somehing that I will learn this year.
