Director & Southern Based Trainer of the British Barbers Association (BBA) Mike Taylor has been announced as the first ever person to be awarded the Master Craftsman Barber Award Plaque by The Hairdressing Council.
Having been in the barbering industry for over 23 years, Mike has been teaching and assessing barbering for 10 years and headed up the BBA since its launch 4 years ago. With his own barber shops, Mike also works as an employer and has helped write the national occupational standards in barbering. He also sits on the expert group for the new Trailblazers scheme (designed to raise the standards even higher for barbering and hairdressing education).
Mike Taylor started in the industry aged just 15 years when he worked as a junior in a local hairdressing salon. Hes now been barbering for almost a quarter of a century, which has seen him go from opening his first barber shop in Newbury at the age of 21 to successfully managing five shops across Hampshire and Dorset.
Mike set up the British Barbers Association with his business partners to raise standards, highlight barbering talent and facilitate the professional and commercial development of barbers, male grooming salons and mens hairdressers.
A trainer for the association, Mike particularly enjoys delivering the fundamentals of barbering: I especially enjoy taking on people that have never held a pair of scissors before and raising them to a level where they can go and work in a barber shop.
