Hi geeks,
This is my first post although I have replied to a few others.
I have a home based salon so don't really have anyone else to ask their opinion.
I did my level 2 beauty and went on a few courses for gel nails, wraps, spray tan and dermalogica. Anyway there are a few things bothering me that I should maybe let go over my head regarding other therapists in my area. It's a small place so I'm quite friendly with all there girls so that makes it hard.

1) has manicure certificate (she did a evening class) but has just opened a home salon and does both manicure and pedicure as she says manicure is just a pedicure of the feet so doesn't need to do a course in that?

2) uses dermalogica products for facials she buys online?

3) did her spray tan training online?

Is this acceptable? I feel gutted that I have spent so much time and money on these things and people do this. What's the point?!
Should I just suck it up?
X

Worry about you, and let her worry about her. You've done your training, you know what you're doing. You have your own business and that should be getting all your attention. :)

Thank you Tammy! Was beginning to think what was the point too if this is acceptable! Glad someone else understands where I'm coming from. I know it's so unfair.

Decent clients DO Care if you are qualified properly. I'm also homebased (well summerhouse based), and I have all my certs framed on the wall, and every client I have has stopped and looked at them all. Don't bother with what everyone else is doing and concentrate on being the best you can be. The best thing to do is not even look at what so and so is doing down the road, especially if its going to put you in a negative mood, remember like attracts like xx

You can't really know what sort of clientele they have ... people always think the 'other' person is doing better than they are and you know what? they WILL if you concentrate on what they 'might' be doing and spend your time moaning on about them instead of getting on with promoting yourself! I have never worried about the 'other kids on the block' because I knew that none of them could be better than our salon.

I have been going to the same girl who does my wax, eyebrows and tan etc (the list goes on) she is not the cheapest and not the flashiest either !!! But she is well trained and has all her certs on show and I trust her. I could go down the road to spend half the money .... What I'm saying is you will keep good clients by offering fantastic service by a well trained person. You should concentrate on your business x

This business can be like a pack of wild dogs, the weaker ones are always at the heels of the leaders, just do your thing, the best you can, keep your training up, your prices reasonable, a smile on your face, pep in your step, and just carry on! The clients you seek are looking for a tech. like you and they are quite discriminating, informed, and have $$ for quality service. Your to busy to be bothered with un/under trained half azcers trying to make a quick buck... right? You go girl!! :)

I think we need to hear advise from our peeps that actually know what we are talking about. Parents and friends are good listeners but sometimes they just don't "get it. On the rare occasion that we need to vent, the best thing is everybody here has paid their dues and can relate to the frustration and venting when we need it!! This forum really does rock!

Guess I just needed a moan because I'm not going to do anything about it. I couldn't do that to the other girls. This forum is ace! As I work on my own it's great to have people that can relate. I go to a beautician 20 miles away from me in the next town so i'll get a moan next time I go there too! Lol! Thanks guys!

Dads have life experience too, and he was right ! Probably he is right about allot of things. Moaning brings negativity .. Don't do it ... Laugh about it instead! Then you will have the last laugh or better yet, your example will force her to become better educated and qualified in order to keep up with you! That would be a very cool result.

I hate when my dad is right! Haha! I have mentioned the training so maybe she'll take heed and like you say that would be a cool result! Watch this space!

You aren't alone my lovely. I've had a rotten week with someone stealing the content of my website, she appears to have done a diploma in waxing & has nicked my pricelist too. I specialise in waxing and I'm Axiom & Kim Lawless trained.

But do you know what? I know I'm the best I can be & my clients love my treatments. I always try my best to improve & adapt to my clients and you cant copy that.

The girls are right forget others & focus on you!

Hugs xx
