I'll be giving my BIL a mani tonight and he has terrible ridges, I don't have product to cover them. Is it ok to file them down for a nice buff finish??

These ridges or grooves on the nail plate are a natural thing, and care needs to be taken. You can lightly buff for a better appearance but buffing until smooth is just thinning the nail plate and is not really advised.

Any advice I should give him about them???

I have read that moisture/oil may help ridges. However, would your BIL let you put a layer or two of clear gel on and then ever so lightly buff off the shine? The lady that trained me showed me a pic of when she did this on her nails when she needed surgery and was told should wasn't allowed product on her nails! It looked very natural, I'm going to try this on my Dad as he has bad ridges and wants stronger nails as he's a guitarist :)
