Hi all,

I have booked myself onto a 1 day Mercia Manicure and Pedicure course through my local Sallys store, was just wondering if anyone had done their courses, and knew if once I have done this I can then go to a college and do a Nail Technology course with this certificate? I have tried calling my local college but no answer..

Thanks! :)

I may be wrong but i suspect this course is to train in their products only.
You may find that you will need NVQ or equivalent in man and ped in order to do a nail tech course at the college to ensure you have the necessary education in anatomy & physiology etc. Does your local college have a website?, sometimes it asks for minimum entry requirements and you could check on the site...xXx

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.
This is what their site says:
You should have the VTCT Level 2 Certificate in Nail Treatments -

(Manicure & Pedicure), or an equivalent recognised manicure qualification as well as the Health, Safety Security & Employment Standards Diploma which must be studied separately.

The mercia course does cover H&S too, maybe I will keep trying to call them and just ask.

It will more than likely be just training in their products but I wont just stick to their products after as once you know the basics can you not use other products to do the same thing?

Thanks! :)

Yeah you're going to need a recognised course in man and ped before doin the nail enhancements course. The mercia course won't be NVQ or VTCT, it will literally be training in their products. I dont think the mercia course will be beneficial to you at this point as you will need to learn all the underpinning knowledge such as health and safety and a&p which will be covered in the vtct or nvq in man and ped.
After you have completed the man and ped course you can then go on to use whichever product you decide to go with and you will have the correct qualififcations to do the nail enhancements course...xXx

Thanks LadyStardust,

I got the course from a voucher I got from Sallys so I will go ahead with the course anyway to get some basic knowledge then if I need to do the VTCT Course I will after.

xx

I also did a basic mani course at Sally's and they trained using Cuccio products. It was fine for what I wanted as I'd never done nails before and wanted to go the Bio Sculpture training but needed a basic introduction. I then spent about 2 months practicing on anything that didn't move before progressing to Bio Sculpture 6 years ago. I agree - it isn't a professionally recognised qualification eg VTEC or NVQ but is a great introduction if you are willing to put in the practice needed to get to a good standard.
