I really don't want to waste my basecoat...I have half of it left (larger size bottle) and it's gone thick and discoloured (yellowy) so I can't really apply it and use it....is this just natural wastage...it seems such a waste. Wasn't sure if there was anything I could do to remedy it

Mine gets a bit thicker as I get to the bottom, but it's never gone yellow? I usually decant the end on one bottle into the new onw (after a few uses) and it's alwasy been fine.

Could you open a new bottle and see if it does the same?

Sounds like it could be contaminated. It may have also not had the lid screwed on all the way.

Unlike removeable gels in a polish bottle, Shellac contains solvents that can escape and cause thickening (just like polish). Yellow is almost always a sign of contamination.

HTHs!
