Hi guys,

:green: I took all the advice from previous threads and got myself a decent nail art kit, with brushes, water based acrylics, salon-quality (Attitude) nail polishes and Xtreme Nails top coat.

When I do some art, being nail polish, then art on top, I leave this to dry for 24 hours (which I shouldn't need to) and when I put my top coat on it smudges and runs! All my lovely work, ruined!

I searched on here for previous threads and I've tried applying a thin coat of top coat, or a thick coat, not dragging the brush through the art, just dotting on the top coat etc. But no matter how, it always smudges. My paints are Reeves water-based acrylics, so I know they are decent paints. I can't make any sense from it.

I spent a lot of money on this, and I love love doing it, so I really want to get it right. And it's really frustrating when it runs! And above all, I can't tell my future clients wait 24 hours for it to set dry!

It's only the acrylic paint that runs! Grrr! :grr:

HELP!

hi
when i do my nail art i found that it smudges as well so what i tend to do now is load my top coat brush with loads of clear so i have enough to cover one nail with out brushing over the nail more than once if that makes sence
hope this helps

Thanks Alison, but I seriously have tried this! I'm at my wits end.

Can acrylic paint that's not water based damage the nail? Is it as easy to work with? How do you get it off?

Sorry for all the questions guys but I love doing this so much, and it's really getting me down. :irked:

Have you tried 'floating' the top coat brush over the nails?

Apply a generous amount of top coat to the brush and don't touch the nail with the brush, try to 'float' it over the nail, this prevents any dragging over your art.

You shouldn't have to wait for the enamel to dry overnight before doing your nailart.

This is exactly what I was going to say:)
It is the bristles of the brush when applying top coat that causes it to smudge, along with the nail art itself being applied too thickly x

I have had no smudges, I load my brush with top coat but very very lightly spread the top coat over the nail, I do this as soon as the paint is touch dry and have had no probs:)

Thank you all for your advice.

Will now go and have a go at the different methods, will let you know how I get on!
