Hi. I'm training in acrylics and I need to answer a question on if the shape of the nail would have an effect on the strength.I am a little confused as we have been told square is the strongest shape and pointed/stiletto is the weakest. But then told that it is not the shape but the stress zone that determines the strength.
Can anyone help me please?

Hi there

Actually as long as the nail is in balance, there is very little difference between the two. But here's something to remember: impact will travel up the sidewalls and across the apex. That's why, clients with very high apex nails can get some very nasty cracks over the top. By giving these clients an almond or stiletto nail, then you are directing the shock away from the apex - they will have far more success with an almond shape.

Hope this has helped!
