Hi, My name is Sonia, and have just qualified through a course as a nail tech..however, i have done a couple of acrylic nails on friends now, and after a week they have came back saying their nails have come off...how do avoid this happening, as i was only practising on a false hand for my course!!! please help and anyone who has advice i would be grateful ...thx

hi could you fill in some information on your profile.. not sure what product you are trained in

This is not an unusual problem for newbies who have never practiced on real people ...

My advice is to look at the tutorials here on the site for preparation (for one of the major culprits that aid lifting is insufficient prep of the natural nails) and then try again. But lifting can be down to many things. Bad brushwork, lack of technique, product to thick or too near the skin .. so many things.

More education is always necessary after courses that don't use live models. You haven't even covered the tip of the iceberg after a course that is not interactive with live models. You must realise you need to go further than this.

Hi

Thx for your post, I have updated my profile, as only recently qualified, i have been using dream products, which they use on the course, as not sure what other product to introduce using without any knowledge, if you can also advise me or if anyone else can that would be much appreciated too. I have just read the prepping tutorial, and I can honestly say that I do put to use all that has been said. I do know however, I did my own acrylic application on my nails, and never experienced any nails coming off. Is it mainly due to the handling of things that clients do? I do issue my clients and aftercare leaflet, however I will continue to make good effort to prep clients nails in future, and as you say hopefully as a newbie, and with much more to learn which I am keen to do, I can overcome this in time.

Sorry but can I also quickly ask, that does this happen to everyone who just starts, or does it still happen to more experienced technicians? Do you offer your client that has this problem to come back for you to refill? Also, do you just put it down to inexperience, and little knowledge, as I know it knocks your confidence a little.

Sonia

Many thx

Hi its me again,

To be honest, I don't think you should be over confident at this stage ... you've never worked on people .. confidence is built over time and with good results.

Yes, I would be very surprised if I had a client with lifting or loosing nails ... I never even think about it as a possiblility ... but I did at the begining ...of course I did ... I learned with my clients to overcome problems but over all you have to look at your results ... how many do not have problems as opposed to how many that do .... this should tell the tale of whether it is you or them. You need lots of clients and you can't rush that ... it comes with time along with confidence.

Your next step in my opinion is to choose a really professional product line and do more training with that brand. Like anything, there are products that help you improve and help you with building your business ... training is all important and with a professional brand.

I would definatly say choose a proffesional brand and train in that all the way ,youve learnt the basics you now need to take it further..believe me your training doesnt stop here .
Heh if you fancy meeting up , Im not too far from you on a Thursday/Friday afternoon,if I can be of any help.:)

Thx for your reply Gigi, and yes you are right in what you are saying, I possibly did come over too confident didnt I, however, like you have stated I need so many more clients to come through my door to even be at a nearly confident stage. I do intend to do more training as you can never have enough. It is nice that I have found this website, and that all you more experienced and much more qualified people give time and help for people like myself. Thankyou. I shall take on board what you have said.

Thx Missy for your message, I would love to meet up if that would be okay with you? Can I ask how long you have been doing nails? Im only doing acrylics at the moment and enjoying it in every way, more so now I have found this website and can take advice and help from everyone...Its very handy. What time would be good for you on thur/fri? x

Learning nails is definately not something that happens overnight and yes your confidence does get knocked when something goes wrong but youve got to break a few eggs to make an omelette and when you do start getting it right and youve got happy customers you will love what you do even more. it just takes practise practise practise and good training and products. just get as many of your friends and family to help you practise on them my fiance has even had his acrylics on! much to his embarassment when kids came to the door for sponsor money and saw them! so they went and got all the kids in the street to come chap door again to look at the man with the false nails on! lol weve moved now :)

Good luck hun and im sure you'll find this site a brilliant help to you, you will be addicted!
