Natural nail question

I feel so silly and embarrased asking this as im not sure i should know this or not!

What influences the colour of a natural nail free edge? My own nails are quite clear but a friends are very white giving her a much envied French Mani look all the time!

Ps would have asked my tutor but she is in hospital :-(

Mainly it's because of the nail's thickness - the thicker the nail, the whiter it will be.

Una is correct. I also have those white free edges that everyone at school envied!!

Another interesting fact is that the size of the lunula determines the thickness of the nail. So these ultra white free edges are often accompanied by a larger than average lunula (but you can't always see it).
