Hey. Long story short I found out today that Yeovil college have cancelled the level 3 massage course I was enrolled to start in September. There's no other course I can do because of child care. There's no other college where I live that I can get to because I don't drive.
Can someone please point me in the right direction of what to do now :-( I was thinking of short courses but i don't know what ones are recognised? (If that's the right word for it!). The ones I saw on Salon services website are in Weymouth which is a nightmare to get to from here (no buses) x

I don't know what you want people to suggest. Do you have any qualifications in this
industry? Are you working already in any holistic area? I'm not a fan of short courses unless they're built on a solid foundation of knowledge and A & P. What do you want to do with the qualification? Work for yourself? Go into a salon etc

I have a level 2 in beauty therapy, opi gel, opi mani & pedi & sienna X manual tan...
I work from home, which I intend to do long term. I would have done level 3 beauty therapy but a big part of the course is electrolysis which I don't have any interest in doing from home. Also it's 1 full day which I can't get child care for.
I'd like to carry on with massage, which is why I enrolled on it. Their excuse for cancelling the course was they didn't have enough interest...but they didn't advertise the course so how would they get interest?
I just wanted advice on what courses are accredited or what people recommended I do... I'm guessing I just carry on doing what I'm qualified in until we move somewhere more civilised so I can do other courses...x

Right!!!

So at least if you did a short course, you're building it onto an nvq. There are some private courses that are fabulous, or look at reflexology as an alternative perhaps.

Nvq 3 at college isn't always an electrolysis route. Fingers crossed you find somewhere x

Gateway offer level 3 massage courses and I understand they do now have another trainer for Yeovil. They run their courses from the Abbey Business centre on Preston Road. hth

Out of interest do you know why the college has cancelled their massage course?

The cancelled it because they didn't advertise it so didn't get enough interest! Unfortunately the level 3 BT course at that college consists mainly of electrolysis. I don't want to spend over £3k on something I don't want to do
I will look into reflexology and gateway, thank you :) x

That's such a shame. I do wonder about the admin at the college, I have a client who has been accepted onto their level 2 BT course but still hasn't been given a start date!

Why do you think the level 3 consists mainly of electrolysis? Have you been told this? Because it's only 1 element of the course (I did the BTEC many moons ago) & it's only a small unit. But having the opportunity to do each unit, whether you want to or not, adds skill & builds your confidence. I didn't particularly enjoy that element, & only did it for a short time after college but, learning all these skills allows you to "cherry pick" what you would like to specialise in when you leave college. I personally wouldn't look at it as your main reason not to do the course! Look at the positives!!

Don't even get me started on that! Last year they told me 3 different start dates. Went to enrollment day and my tutor said 'when you come in tomorrow...' (I was told the last time I phoned that the start date was the following week!). I said 'excuse me? I was told it's next week!' - even on the enrollment form it said the following week! I could go on forever about the lack of organisation in that place. Because my kit and uniform was paid by bursary, it took til December for it to come! Even though I did the form before I started!

Yes they said the majority of the year is electrolysis. They do that, full body massage and intimate waxing - that's all I was told. The course I was enrolled to do covered full body massage, full body massage with aromatherapy, hot stone massage and Indian head massage x

I think this is a regular occurrence with colleges unfortunately.
My nail course was the same.

Do the short course if you have lots of people to practice on. Once you have been taught the massage moves it's all practice and you already have A & P knowledge from your previous course
