Hello all!

I am new to the site and just hoping for some general help and advice, the more the merrier!
I have just (today) received my level 3 Nail Tech Diploma. Hurray!
I studied a home course for Acrylic, gel, silk & fibreglass nails, The only problem with that is that I was only graded on the theory and not my actual work.
I'm studying all the time with books, DVD's anything I can get my hands on. Nails are on my mind 24/7 and I have just started a nail art & airbrush nail art course too.
I have a nail trainer, which is a life saver! So I am practicing on that as much as physically possible.

My problem is I lack the confidence to go out and practice on friends and family in case I mess up, I am very critical of my work, when I do my own nails they look great so I know I can do it, but I feel rather inexperienced compared to other nail tech's that have had the advantage of learning in a salon or with other newbies.

Does anyone have any help or advice they can give me? maybe a few tips from when you were starting out, I will be eternally grateful!

Thanks :p x

Hiya, I am newly qualified as well, and am a bit like yourself, a bit afraid lol, I have practiced on many friends and family, and am now at the stage where I will have to start charging......as I can't just keep doing peoples nails for free, forever, advice that I recieved was to just go for it, the only way you get experience is to actually do it, so just go for it!! you can always inform them that you are newly qualified, and maybe not charge as much to begin with, maybe just a bit to cover costs, and a wee bit for your time untill you feel a bit beter...and maybe take some pictures of your nails as you are doing them and that way you can show interested clients what it is you do??

Good luck with it all!! xx ruth

Thanks Ruth.

Everyone has to start somewhere, I just need to jump in and do it!

I'll let you know how it goes... eek!

Good luck on the charging aspect! x
