hi iv been a nail tech for 3mths, i did my training with youngnails,i still have a full time job so iv been doing nails evenings and weekends, firstly im finding it hard to find customers,iv done all the advertising you can think of,and secondly i still dont think im good enough,im never happy with my work even though my clients are!and im still makeing mistakes,iv had about 3 customers that have not come back to me so thats making me think im crap!anybody else felt like this when first starting out?

every single one of us has gone through that Babe so I wouldn't worry. Even after over 25 years in this industry I still question myself when a client doesn't return. I defy anyone to say they've NEVER had a discruntled client. So dust yourself down pick youself up and carry on, 3 months is no time at all, in my first year I spent days at a time sitting in the salon with not a client in sight, now I have several salons mobile girls on the road and work as a part time beauty editor. Keep going and good luck. If you ever feel like giving up just get in touch with me and chat.

hi thanks for that makes me feel better,im sure i will have a lot more questions to ask!x

Hi hun
Try not to worry about clients not returning some peole only want there nails done for special days ,say going out or birthdays ,we all have this . We cant keep every client that comes to use.xxxxx

Hon don't despair, I've been there too, it really does take time to build clients up. Practise as much as possible, have you got a nail trainer? keep on going don't give up. I'm no expert, far from it but there are loads of geeks on here who will give you loads of advise. xx

hi thanks for that ye i do have a nail trainer,i try and practise as much as i can and read as much info i can get hold of x

ye i suppose ur right,it just knocks your confidence a bit when they dont return x

I used to get really worried that my customers thought their nails were no good when they didn't return, but as has already been said some peeps only book for hols, occasions, xmas etc. They may not be able to afford regular maintenance and you will most likely find that come next spring/summer they rebook for their holiday nails again.

I have stressed big time over this over the last few years particularly when I started working in a salon for the first time, I thought that my boss would think the customers weren't happy with my work. But it is completely normal.

Also, you will find that you get customers that you will wish didn't come back . Personality comes into it too. Some clients you just don't get on with or click with and they may not rebook even if you do a stunning set on them just because there was a wrong vibe between you if you know what I mean. At the end of the day (being a Young Nails tech myself) you are using a fantastic product that your clients should be happy with.

Don't take it personally, just take the payment and be happy they came to you in the first place, each client is a learning experience. If you know you did something that they may not have liked then learn from it and use that knowledge with your next client and of course practice, practice, practice!!!!!
