Hi all, I started my business a year ago but I'm still not getting anywhere I very rarely get any clients. Am not sure what else to do, I've done leaflet drops, all free sites, Facebook, did have a Web page but couldn't get it updated so had to close it. Is there any other suggestions or does it just not work for some people (I have read the business post on here )

What was your target market? Did you have a market?

Do you do all your friends and family?

Do competitions on Facebook think outside the box where someone actually wins. Not the if I reached a 1000 likes rubbish! Getting people through the door should be your first priority how you treat them when they are there may lead to word of mouth x

I moved to a new area so I don't actually know anyone here :( I did try the like & share competition but no did it & recently my posts only get seen my 10 - 20 people. I'm thinking of creating my own website again, do you's think that's better than Facebook?

Beauty is a people business, so rather than just rely on faceless advertising (like leaflet drops etc), why not set about contacting some local groups that fit your target market (whether that's mother and toddlers or the WI) and then ask if you could do a talk for them. When I first went self-employed I did a few of these sorts of talks and demos on skincare, how to look after your hands etc etc and got quite a lot of business.

Have you tried local networking meetings, charity events, donating vouchers to events??

What problems did you have with your website? I would be lost without my website. I made it myself, for free, using Weebly, and I can update it or change it whenever I like. Beyond that, like Martin said, you need to get out and meet people. I do understand how difficult it is starting up in a new area, I myself did the same 3 years ago. I started with a handful of clients who were new friends, did leafleting, had the website and now it's starting to snowball with word of mouth which is of course the best form of advertising, but initially the slowest to get started.

Where are you home based, mobile or salon? Personally facebook hasn't really worked to well for me I had a website which I got some much more from
