Ive graduated from Cosmetology school, and I love doing nails, I would one day love to have my own nail shop, but there are SOOO many NSS in my area that charge about $20 for a full set! I use professional products that are of course more costly then the generics that those NSS shops use, sad to say im a lil discouraged now..... As of now I do nails at my home, and already Ive had clients say "they are costly, or take too long and "theyre too thin, are they gonna last?? :irked: I try to explain about these NSS shops but they just love the price and speed. what do you all think? any advice?

Honestly, I don't think you have anything to worry about. You are educated in your field and you use PROFESSIONAL products.

I'm sure there will always be folks who will go to a NSS for the 'convenience' but to me, they all come out with cookie cutter nails...they all look the same. The NSS nails I've seen give French manicure's a bad name!

Keep doing what you're doing...giving great service, educating your clients about NSS and keep your chin up! I feel the more we educate our clients the fewer clients we'll have going to NSS. :)

I say emulate or forget about them. Either provide a similar service ( I do a natural set with airbrush french that is cheaper than my forever french) or hold your head up high knowing you are giving your clients the best service possible.

Hi

I can see where you are coming from, these places are just popping up everywhere, but when it comes down to it, you are educated, you are talented, you use authentic products, and you need to keep your esteem high, I know it is easy for me to say, but when it comes down to it, your nails will last longer, your products + tools will not infect people.

It is hard to educate our clients, they seem to think of the $$$$$ instead of the quality.

Chin up........Keep smiling........

Trude:)

I am in Detroit Michigan and I know what you mean. They are everywhere here, and they are running specials for $15 full sets and $10 fills. One of my conpetitors are not a discount salon and they are running a special for $10 full sets. I was floored and cant believe it. a good quality nail salon is far and in between here but you have to give your potential clients something different that makes you stand out from the discount salons. This is where you have to put your marketing skills to use. Learn everything you can about marketing and dont lower your prices to compete with the discount salons.

I absolutely agree! Once we lower prices to try to match/beat them, we are doomed. We ARE better than the NSS and we should charge accordingly! :)

I know what you mean!
And these salons just seem to be getting cheaper! The other day I saw a new NSS open in downtown, and they're charging $18 for a full set.

It's insaneee!
