Hmm i agree, they do look a bit patchy.

What technique are you using to apply freehand?

What sectioning pattern do you use?

I start at the back and take sections that are usually 3/4 inch to inch deep and 1 1/2 to 2 inches wide. I then use the side of the tint brush to put a highlight down either side of the section until they meet at the bottom. As I come round to the front of the hairline and parting, I tend to take slightly smaller sections.
Do you think it would help if I were to use a paddle? I've got one but not quite sure how to use it.
If anyone has anyone pictures during the processing and application stages that would be brilliant [emoji5]️

Do you saturate the ends?

Patchiness is usually due to uneven saturation.

Also i's recommend taking chevron sections, it'll be much more forgiving whilst you're trying to improve.

There are loads of Balayage videos on YouTube to watch. Also, the Freesaloneducation.com ones are good.

It really is all about practising though. Have you got a dolls head you can use?

I've practiced on a dolls head and it came out fine...it had quite fine hair so wasn't really a true reflection.
I'll try the chevron sections. Thank you x

What do you mean by chevron sections?

Can anyone recommend a good angled tint brush? X
