Opinions re: my own hair colour & extensions?

Hi Geeks,

Looking for some inspiration regarding my own hair. I have had black hair for as long as I can remember and Im getting a bit too old to carry it off now, it makes me look severe and Id like a softer look.

I am contemplating going either a 99j in hair extension terms and having some more fitted - I am worrying about the upkeep of the colour though, I know reds are a bit of a nightmare which is amplified with extensions. I have attached a couple of pics of my hair with extensions about a year ago - its now natural with no extensions and a layered growing out bob (past shoulders now). Do you think I should stay dark? Or go dark brown, or go with my preference of a dark red/burgundy colour?

I really cannot decide what to do but I have had no colour now for 3 - 4 months and its getting desperate and I need to book in my colour correction.

What about ombreing it? 1b/33 something like that, it a gorgeous mix and it might be a less scary transition then all over straightaway

I would eventually love to have Balayage or a subtle ombre but my shortest layer is only just past my occipital bone so Id rather it a little longer before taking that plunge - that being said, I have some Angelslocks dip dye samples on the way so I may take a look at that before making a final decision - I have this urge to go back to red though and the angelslocks 99j looks so nice!
