Peeling thumbs, IBD Just Gel

I have a client that has had ibd just gel off me almost constantly for a year,she has gone in for an op so I have removed it as it's not allowed.
Her thumbs only have always peeled slightly but they are very badly peeling lately,I have recommended that she apply cuticle oil regularly to her nails and cuticle but also to let the nails grow up a bit before putting gel polish back on.
Does anyone know why this could be happening to thumbs only and also anything that could help them,thanks

Does this still happen if you try to cure the thumbs separately?
I've had this with my LED lamp , if I use my CND to cure its fine but the LED doesn't seem to catch the thumbs with fingers and found curing the thumbs separate worked?
