Hi, I am a qualified make up artist but have just been testing the water, practising on friends family and doing a lot of prom packages with hair, make up and nails and of course I have done a lot of make up on older children at pamper parties for a long time. I have recently started doing really cheap make up on women too for special occasions when they have their hair styled, again just to build my confidence and practise. I am always happy with the results and so are my clients and I know I am good at what I do so I have been gradually advertising more as a MUA.
I have been asked by a photographer that I have worked with before to do some photographic work as a MUA for a rockabilly shoot she is doing and I think it is now time to invest in a really good foundation range and any other product to help with photographic makeup that I can also use for brides as that is what I want to specialise in as soon as I am ready. Also if anyone has any ideas of how I can save buying every shade in foundation, concealer, powders ect as that will cost me a fortune to get all in one go!

Thanks in advance!

You need to consider flashback for photography and SPF. There's so many opinions and preferences look to google as various beauty bloggers have left great reviews and even take a look at some "Dupes" which will save you money at the beginning. In terms of foundations you don't need to buy the entire range, you can select a few and mix- sculpt and highlight- also be aware of undertones/ you will want some pink/ some yellow/ olive etc. a good primer, base, some high pigmented shadows etc are really important you'll want a few different foundations as they really aren't one size fits all, maybe one light coverage range, one heavier and tinted moisturiser and also mineral powders. Invest in a good setting powder and shop around. My entire kit is made up of various brands- I am yet to discover one brand that makes everything as good as I would want it to be so by having a selection you can use all the " best bits" good luck!

Thank you for the advice. I use photo finish primer by Smash box which I find really good and feels lovely and have various setting powders. I will have a read a round but any tips or advice would be very much appreciated!

Thanks

Be careful when buying concealers you don't want light reflecting ones as they will be picked up with the flash on cameras. I love lily lolo blush away concealer for redness and it doesn't clog the skin

Thanks. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to carry my kit around? I started out with a wicker box but don't think it was such a great idea now it's full as it gets really heavy and I struggle to carry it and open doors/unlock my car ect. I have a lot of bags too and don't think it's a great look! Don't think it looks professional enough

I have mine in a hand luggage size wheelie trolly. Got it in a a luggage shop!

I have a huge make up box from eBay :) it's like a nail box but slightly bigger and all the trays have no compartments. I can fit all my make up in and cotton wool and toner etc then use a smart handbag to carry my roll of make up brushes and I pad with pics for consults

Thanks guys, I went in a luggage shop today and got a IT luggage bag, should have been £89 got it for £16.50! Bargain! Cheaper than the cosmetics boxes and extremely light. Oh and it's pink! Wouldn't have thought to get something like that so thanks for the help :)
