hey. im michellle im new to this salon geek thingy.. but i need some advise and help.. next week my salon are holding a massive pink week in aid of breast cancer. my boss has told me i have to come up with a small package specialy for cancer patients. i just need a little help on what to put in this package, also a little help understand what treatments i can and cant do. as i am reading differnt things on google to what i have been trained in. many thanks M .x.

I know during my training we were told to contraindicate most people with cancer, so you may be limited as to what you can offer. If i'm right, and i'm sure someone will let me know if i'm wrong.... things like massage are out, and it's mainly for insurance purposes.

It's a great cause, and i hope you come up with something. Maybe a pink file n polish?

I would try to offer something as relaxing as possible without the need for massage. Maybe -

manicure & pedicure adapted, perhaps paraffin wax instead of massage

how about mini facial with nail paint and polish during mask application instead of massage

make up session

hth X

thanks guys :) brilliant ideas. x

i did a charity day offering beauty treatments at an organized event, most ladies were cancer patients so we strictly stuck to manicures and pedicures no parafin wax or cuticle nipping as they can bleed easier as their skin is thinner, and no massage. every thing done carefully. and makeup, and thats it. i think these are the safest treatments to do x

There is no indication really to not offer a paraffin hand wax. Can be very relaxing for the individual and therefore quite a therapeutic experience. I think really that is overly cautious. However, I understand if you do not feel comfortable with it. I guess as a nurse, I can make that call. But again, think of the benefits to the client at a stressful time in their life.
