Hi all,
I'm a newbie on here and this will be my first thread! Posting in frustration!!! I have just completed an NCFE Level 1 in beauty and had applied for tons of jobs with not much response until i found one on the beauty guild website and was invited for an interview / trade test! I qualified as a nail technician in 2006 with star nails so primarily was looking for nail tech work, however i really aspire to be a beauty therapist. A company has offered me some work on a casual basis where they can continue to train me in salon which has been fine as i've been practising my newly learnt skills a little.

Can anyone help me by clarifying what i am actually qualified to do with this qualification once my certificate is received. My tutor tells me that it is everything we have been taught...waxing, eye treatments, manicure, facials. Would this be correct as not many employers seem to even know what NCFE is. I've been studying this now for 30 weeks part time at my local college?

All help greatly received.

Thanks!!

NCFE level 1 is not what salons are looking for, they want NVQ level 2 and 3, so in essence what you have is equivalent of NVQ level 1.

Mind you, don't take my word for it, perhaps NCFE levels have increased. when I taught NCFE level 1 it was equivalent of an attendance certificate and geared towards getting people up to a standard where they felt confident to enrol on NVQ courses. That was a few years ago, so standards may have changed.

I would ask for a meeting with your tutor and ask her/him to explain what your NCFE is and equivalent too.

Thanks for that, i was thinking it was a basic starting point myself...i know i definately don't feel confident enough to perform treatments!! The salon where i have been offered some casual hours is trying to get me on an apprenticeship so hopefully that teamed with some more training should get me up to scratch!!!

Thanks again :)
