I am after some opinions from nail bar renters and beauticians. I own a hair salon and rent out the beauty room. The beautician does nails but doesn't specialise in them and claims not to be that good : So the questions -

1. Nail renters - Would you rent out a nail bar in salon that already had someone doing nails - even if no very good. Also how much would you pay in this scenario.
2. Beauty renters - Would you object if where you rented from suddenly brought in someone else possibly taking some of your business ?

Any views would be appreciated

need more info - who buys the products?

1. Nail renters - Would you rent out a nail bar in salon that already had someone doing nails - even if no very good. Also how much would you pay in this scenario. I worked in this situation and it worked well because the beautician knew she wasn't very good at nails and I didn't do beauty. The ground rules have to be set at the start though. All nail appointments were with me - even if they were having beauty treatments with the beautician. The only change to this was if they specifically wanted the beautician to do them (they rarely did) and if I was already busy and couldn't fit them in and she could. We were both reasonable people and it worked well. I promoted her beauty treatments in chats with my nail clients and she (hopefully!) did the same for me during her beauty treatments. We both ended up busier than we would have been if we'd been there alone.

2. Beauty renters - Would you object if where you rented from suddenly brought in someone else possibly taking some of your business ? I can only speak from a nail tech's point of view but if you keep everyone informed and involved in the process then I don't see the problem. Any reasonable person would appreciate that if there is a treatment they are not particularly good at, someone else could and should be able to take it on. Clients want someone who specialises in their service and if you are great at beauty AND nails then great! If not, I would want a beautician for my beauty needs and a nail tech for my nails.

Any views would be appreciated. Hope that helps you - communication is everything though. That way no one gets their nose out of joint over it and everyone could win. And you get more rent!

The individual people would buy their own products for use and for retailing. each business would be completely independant of the salon or each other.

Communication is everything. How does your current girl feel? How many hairstylists do you have? Is having more than one manicurists any different than having more that one hairstylists? Is it a good team? Having good ground rules ahead of time is always a plus.
A good team enhances the opportunities for all who participate.

It would just have to be very clear from the start ALL nail app's the nailtech incl file & paints - should work brilliantly
