What’s everyone’s view on bleach on the scalp whilst clients are pregnant?

Avoid. I'm not an expert or anything but It defiantly sounds bad... Although to be honest if its something you do often your body will probably be fine with it, business as usual, however if this is your first bleaching it wouldnt be suprised if it could cause shock or something horrible

Hmm... I would say at yours and your clients discretion. You don't patch test for bleach so it would be difficult to say whether she would react or not. Give her the option, and if she wants to proceed, ask her to sign a disclaimer. Make sure you still patch test for any toners that may be used afterwards, regardless of whether she's had them before or not. If you can, maybe even do a strand test, hormones can do crazy things!

Allergies can often occur after many years of regular exposure to an irritant. That’s why it’s vital that a colour patch test is regularly carried out.
Fluctuating hormone levels can often be a trigger and pregnant women need to be much more careful than usual. You often find that a perm or a colour doesn’t take as well during pregnancy.

Disclaimers are a bad idea. They are used widely in places like the States with their compensation culture, but in the U.K., they do not protect the hairdresser at all.

What it actually does is provide evidence for the plaintiff that the hairdressing professional was aware of the potentially increased risk involved and went ahead anyway.

The safest option for the client is to use foils and keep the bleach off the scalp.
