Renting a chair is usually for experienced hairdressers that have a good clientele, and want to earn more from it without all the pressure of their own salon. I charge 250 a week for a chair. This is payable 52 weeks a year. It includes electric and hot water but nothing much else.
The stylist provides all her own stock and equipment. Her clients pay her direct, and she does her own tax etc.
On the downside, if she doesn't work, she doesnt earn. There is no holiday pay, sick pay or maternity pay.
On the upside, she earns more (she has a big client base) and she has total freedom to work when she wants.
Her overheads in her own salon would be many times what she pays now. If she was mobile, she would not be able to work at the speed that she does, so her income would be much lower.
