I've just spoken to a lady about renting a room in a salon. I've been out of the loop for a few years and just got back into training for my NVQ Level 3.

I'm desperate to leave my current job which pays a good wage to go back into beauty and I have done self-employed before, however I have no clients and she said I'd have to buy my own products.

It's a pretty big step to take and I'm a bit scared and don't know what to do, any advice? xx

Would it not be a better idea to get a job in a salon? It would help you build up your speed, accuracy and confidence, and save up some money before you go it alone.

Unfortunately employed positions in salons are very few and far between in my area. This is the first oppurtunity I've seen/heard about in forever!

Any new business venture will need money to fund it, until it's up and running.

You, either, need to keep (or get) a second job to subsidise your venture or be prepared to loose money until you have a built a profitable business. Please think about this carefully, as it can take years to build up a decent sized clientele.

The other option, as suggested by persianista, is to look for PAYE employment from another salon :)
