Afternoon ladies, please can someone give me some advice as to how I go about registering my mobile business. Not sure what to do
Thanks x

Good question i need answered too! :) x

You either need to ring the inland revenue or there's a form online to register as self employed on their website

fill in a self employment form at direct.gov and get your insurance and your good to go! x

Where are you guys based?

Im based in wiltshire:)

You can register online. It is tricky starting up and lots you need to think about. Businesslink is really good for info. But you register with HMRC. They have a helpline that is super good on: 08459000444 where they can answer questions about Tax and self assessment. On the HMRC you can register as self employed, it's pretty straight forward, the hard part is knowing everything else to do but their website has so much info on what records to keep. They also have workshops call 08456032691 for info and dates. Good luck xxx

Hi

Before opening my beauty salon I was an Accountant for 10 years, not up to date with current tax law but you need to register your business in a certain amount of time, which I can't remember but what I do remember is that if you register late you get a £100 fine. so please check this out.

You also need to register to pay your NIC contributions which is roughly £2 per week.

I would recommend getting an accountant which can be costly but meet with them and get them to design an excel spreedsheet or something for you to enter your income & expenses on to minimise cost. So all they need to do is enter totals into their system, they probably wont offer this but they will do if you ask.

Also take into consideration that if you make a certain amount a year you then need to register for VAT, this is over £65,000 per year, again can't remember the exact amount.

The Inland revenue aren't as scary as people think and they will give you all the help and advice they can.

Hope this helps

Yeah you have to register within the first 3 months. And if you make more than 70000 per year the rules are slightly different as you need to keep more precise records and register for VAT which is a hassle. So if you have a part time job on the side this needs to be included too if you're a sole trader x

I don't know if you are still needing help but when I started up the lady who I bought the business off recommended the person who did her accounts, they aren't based near me so I don't think it matters where you are, I just spoke to her on the phone and she set everything up very reasonable price she now does all my book keeping and wage slips, I just post them what they need and they sort everything so I don't have to worry about missing deadlines and stuff. I think they specialise in Salons and Spa's they saved me lots in what I am aloud to claim back, let me know if you want the number I will PM you.
good luck
