Sharpie markers and nail art

Seen so many people putting pictures up on Facebook using sharpie markers to do nail art has anyone done this? This is one of the pictures I seen xx

Just received mine in post today and I have no clue how to her the colour to the tip.
I was told at a nail art class one can draw on the acylic or gel polish then apply topcoat.
