Should I stay mobile? Or rent the space?

Hi,
I have a bit of a dilemma and was hoping for some advice! I currently work mobile on a part time basis as my full time job is too well paid to give up and do nails full time (I'm currently saving up to open my own nail bar so the good salary really helps which is why I'm clinging to it for dear life!) Anyways, my plan is to open an up market salon in a nice part of the city and aim for 'that certain clientele' if you get what I mean....

However...I've been approached by a hairdressers asking if I would be interested in renting space at a tenner a day for at least 1 day per week. Now it seems fab but its not a great part of the city. I really am not a snob by any means but I don't want to position myself in a salon where prices may need to be lowered to appeal to customers. My mobile work is keeping me bsy but I have noticed a decline over the last 18 months and I'm wondering if I should take this opportunity to take on new clients and make some cash while overheads are low and there's no crazy dashing about from appt to appt? I've just finished a leaflet drop in a very affluent part of the city and I'm wondering if I can mix mobile with even 1 day per week in a salon to get a steady income (apparently all the clients in the salon are excited at the idea if my being there which is great!)
Sorry this post is so long-basically my point is this...should I slog it out with the big payers and stay mobile or do a bit of both and take on a saturday in a pretty rough area which in reality may not reflect the clients coming through the door?
What to do what to do ... I just don't know if the clients in this salon would be the kind I would target for my own nail salon?
Thanks for reading this and I hope someone can nudge me in the 'right' direction xxx

It's good that you have narrowed your market, however I wouldn't fence yourself in too much. Are there any other nail techs in that particular area? If so, where do they have their prices set? Personally I think your quality of work speaks volumes more than your location. I do know people that are willing to travel if they can find someone they trust and that provides them with the quality of service they are looking for. I would ask as many questions as possible, average spend, etc in order to get a feel; but most of all churn out some killer nails and word will soon get around. Bottom line is that it's your decision love. hth's xx

The salon might not be in the afluent area you are aiming for but sometimes they will have more clients in for tans and nails.

Where in Glasgow is it? PM me if you don't want to say on here.

Hi
Yeah there are a few other nail techs around with pretty low prices but I don't think I would lower mine any to compete. I'd rather let my work speak for itself but it's difficult getting new faces through the door when you're prices aren't as low as someone a few doors down. I'm thinking I could give it a try and even trial it for a few weeks but we shall see .... I'm just wary that NSS's are more prominent in certain areas making it harder for techs to be valued and make money!
Sheesh what a drama ;) I should just be happy my services are in demand lol
Thanks for your thoughts = I'm thinking I'll do it and see how it goes! I can always focus my mobile work towards the area I hope to have my salon in! xx
