Hi there guys,

So I have my CND 5 day course this sunday, but I have a question for you all,

My model is my mum whos had acrylics for years now but recently one of her nails split under her acrylic,

Is it goin to be possible for me to apply a new nail over this split nail? Or am I going to find it difficult as its my very first time in learning acrylic nails?

Thank you! Xx

Answer to your question.
The split depends on were it is on the nail bed. If its near the free edge then as long as you keep the natural nail short as you can, I can't see any reason why you can't put an Acrylic nail over the split. Maybe put some nail glue over split to seal it together before you try and put acrylic over it. As long as there is no exposed nail bed.
Hope that helps

Thank you so much for the reply!

Ill have to have a look once her acrylics are soaked off, but hoping its possible to file it down.

Your advice is greatly appreciated! :D x

this will depend where the split it...

if it has split from the sidewall towards the middle of the nail, shorten as much as possible and re-extend
if its just the free edge (ie she has broken the natural nail uptowards the hyponychium) then you can shorten the nail down and tip/sculpt a new free edge

if the split travels up the nail plate and over the nail bed then you need to access how deep the split is...

if the nail plate has seperated (becoming 2 plates) and there is soft tissue between them then this poses a problem. You should not apply nail product to soft tissue, so adhesive becomes a good 'base layer' option.

if it is still intact but splitting back towards the eponychium then you most certainly can overlay it, don't try and file it out, simply prep as normal and overlay...

the second 2 types of split nail are normally due to irreversable damage to the matrix. ...
Overlays will then become the only way to keep the strength and structure on this type of damaged nail..
