hi , im new to this forum so forgive me if this has been asked before but i wondered if there is perhaps a decent system out there that you can actually spray tan yourself with? ive tried babyliss system but found it to be very streaky and leaky! would it be better to buy a hvlp or the smaller airbrush gun? any help is appreciated :)

I wouldn't even attempt to spray tan myself! You really can't keep it at the same distance all over the body and you certainly can't do your back.
It has been asked before and there were those that had tried and failed and those that wouldn't even entertain the idea.
I'm training my husband up and i know a lot of the girls here have trained their husbands/partners.

Get together with a friend and both take some training in spray tanning then you will be able to spray each other as well as been able to gain some insurance and make some money from doing it professionally

I've tried and failed, so trained my man to do it for me :) as Loubylou says, go for training with a friend

Hi Vicky and welcome to SG.
By way of your posted question and the equipment you have used am I right in guessing your a consumer and not trained in spray tanning?

If this is the case..throw away any concept of undertaking a spray tan application to yourself or with a friend and vice versa....these home kits simply make a complete mess of things and this is what gives our industry a bad reputation.

For you to go on a course is one thing..you will then need to buy a professional machine so were looking at anything form £300 + investment here.
Go to a salon who are qualified in the application of spray tans and get the application done properly.

Failing that I would recommend that you try using a moisturiser which is impregnated with DHA...now were not talking of Johnson's holiday stuff ..were talking about a proper professional brand moisturiser as these contain up to 6% DHA verses the 1% that you buy on the high street.
These moisturisers are not only good for the skin but in time will give you an even natural looking tan and is a much more forgiving means of home application..I.E. very difficult to make a mess of your appearance.

Good luck

thanks for all the replies! yes colin im not trained in spray tanning. can i ask what self tans you are referring to with DHA? i currently use st tropez which is fine however i just wondered if it was worth while buying a small spray set myself but with the replies i think i wont! i have however seen very good reviews on the babyliss system but i must have had a faulty one as it leaked alot which wasnt good. thanks guys!

the Babylis machine is ..well erm  ...enough said.:)

An alternative home machine is the Nures machine which comes with a DVD which could help ...a good robust little machine for home use but you really do need to be taught how to use it properly..then of course someone else for spray tanning you as well.

Find a good moisturiser with as high a DHA concentrate and you really cant go wrong, for special occasions etc then just nip out and get a professionally applied tan

Tantrick moisturisers contain 6% which is one of the higher ones but their is also Sienna x,Fake bake and many others.

HTH
