Hi Everyone,

I am booked onto the xen tan spray tanning course with the Carlton Institute later this month. After reading some people's threads I am little worried I have made the wrong choice by training with them?!? Does anyone have any feedback?
Having bought xen tan myself and had good results this is what made me choose this course however I would like to offer this to clients and worry that they will not get the same results!

I have yet to buy the kit thankfully as it seems that this is not the best? Can anyone recommend any kits to me along with the best tan around at the moment?
Also, once I have trained with the Carlton Institute am I entitled to purchase other brands?!?!

Sorry for all the questions! Many Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!!

Even though I am a trainer for Tantrick, here is my unbiased reply for you.

Why do you think you have chosen the wrong route chick?

Once you have trained you will be free to use any brand of tanning solution so don't worry on that score.

Make sure when you go on your course that you ask as many questions as you need to, make sure that if you have bought equipment you are shown how to strip it down and maintain it.

Don't stress, you made your choice for a reason and that is that you like the resulting tan, once you have had your training, with practice you will turn out excellent tans I am sure.

Good luck.

Hi

I trained through the Carlton Institute, but I did my training at the Brentwood Academy - absolutely fantastic teachers there! So I really can't say what the Windsor or Exmouth ones are like.

I bought the kit and I haven't had any problems with it.

To answer your question, once trained it's up to you which products and brands you use. You don't have to stick with XEN-TAN if you don't want too!

Training is either good or not! As Spray Tanning is a fairly simple technique it is difficult to really find a bad course, however its more the content that you need such as troubleshooting, looking after your equipment & various techniques. A lot of this though is also trial and error. If you get stuck or come across future problems you may more than likely forget what your trainer said anyway and you can come on here and ask the geeks who always help out!

As to your equipment, this is the most vital part of your tanning career. Bad equipment can cause you more headaches than you want, and it also knocks your confidence too.

And once your trained your free to use any solution you like. Most therapists use a different solution to that that they were trained with, and probably most of us also use more than one solution brand.

Im not sure I agree here

...whilst it may indeed appear that spray tanning looks easier it is proper and relevant training and the utilization of the correct techniques as well as the selection of DHA concentrates relative to skin type that is of the utmost importance.

It is these two factors primarily that sets a good therapist apart from those that..well simply mess things up with poor application(particularly hands and feet) and the use of incorrect solutions that turn out umpa lumpas and which is what ultimately leads to giving spray tans and this industry a bad reputation.

Of course selecting the right equipment to suit the specific needs of your business is clearly important however without correct training and application technique knowledge you can buy the best machine in the world and still mess up a tan...look down the high street every Friday night and you will see so many badly applied sunless tans

As for forgetting things a good training organisation or independent trainer is/should always be there on an ongoing basis to offer advice and support.

HTH

I have been teaching tanning for years and yet to come across someone who struggled! Compared to any other area it is simple!!! Every one I teach is amazed at its simplicity!

Get a bad machine or a cheap solution loaded with nasties such as Alcohol then your going to muck up big time! I have retrained many a girl that has been on not only one to one courses but courses with some top brands because they never guided them AFTER the initial training nor taught them how to use their machine properly. There technique was perfect! They adapt it to there own way ~ they just lacked the after care, which any decent trainer offers or you can get the advise here! I find now 90% of all problems can be solved over the phone without re-training!

However as I was getting at, If she feels the course 'misses' anything out then this forum can assist her where needed if she does not get any support from her original tutors.!

But then if I say black is black you'd say white!
