Most of us on here seem want to train more and more and keep our skills up to date or improve them.

I was wondering who pays for this? I am also aware that there are many 'one man bands' on here so that is obvious that you pay for you own.

But, if you work in a salon who pays for your training?

Do you get any training?

Do you as an employer keep your staff up to date? I am talking about beauty as well as nails here.

Is there as much training available for Beauticians as there is for Nail Technicians?

How do Beauticians keep abreast of the industry?

Do you keep your staff updated with training in all departments? (Not only treatments but Health and Safety etc).

Is it economically viable to keep all of your staff educated?

I have all of these questions because I am going to open my own salon and I would like everyone who works for me to be as educated as they can be but I am not sure if that is possible

Thanks xxx

well i took the decision that as it was benefiting my business that I would pay for training. However there was a clause in the contract that if they left within a certain period they would have to pay it back.

There are loads of different avenues you can go down in the beauty field. Either specialising in one area, or every time yo take on new equipment then you have to be trained on it.

What I'd advise is that you do the training too, or if you don't have the right qualifications then ask to sit in on the training. As the owner you really need to know the ins and outs of it all a. because you can relate to the therapist more and not have unrealistic expectations of their performance and the treatment itself and b. as the owner if you get a complaint (heaven forbid) it doesn't look taht great if you don't have a clue about it.
