I'm a bit of a training junkie. There are some things I nearly trained in but didn't and am glad that I didn't:

Electrolysis: not much opportunity to practice it in industry and I'm needle phobic.

Electrical body treatments: not much opportunity to practice it in industry.

Sugaring: as above.

Threading: I've not got the patience.

Minx: when I discovered the joys and endless possibilities of using foils I was glad I didn't train in minx.

Hairdressing: even though my health at the time was ok, I would struggle being on my feet for that long now.

Thai massage and sports massage: ditto the above.

Reiki: I got more into the crystal therapy side of things.

Your mileage may vary. It depends on what you like doing and the sort of places and people you like to work for I guess so I'm not dissing anything and this list is just reflective of me and my direction. Would love to know the stuff you guys don't regret not training in because I think it's interesting to see trends in the industry. I came close to training in all of the above but didn't for whatever reason at the time. My only regret is not advancing my makeup training when I was in a better position to do so (the prices have shot up in the last few years I feel! Ditto ptlls in this regard).

And you? :)

I was going to do more types of nails, eyebrows, waxing & tanning. I'm a hairdresser & tjouht it would be good to be able to offer all these services under one roof....
I wasn't very busy at that particular time...
I offered gel nails at the time and could comfortably fit a set or two in a week amongst hair clients, I then got busier with hair & realised I couldn't manage nails too, so I had to stop the nails and focus on hair, after all that what my shop was for!
I'm glad I diddnt waste all that money in training in all those courses now looking back!
A very wise geek once told me "don't be a jack of all trades and a master of none"
It made me realise that I will never know everything there is to know just about hairdressing so to spread myself over to beauty too would be spreading myself too thin, it seems there is something new to learn in the hair field every day so I'm going to be a master of that rather than a jack of all trades!

After all kahuna means master of the craft ;) if the boot fits ;)

I trained in Swedish massage very early on and wasn't keen. I thought I would train in sports/remedial and maybe I'd enjoy that but the opportunity to do aromatherapy came up and I suddenly felt like I had found the massage I loved. I now know that sports massage was so not for me and my further training took me down the beauty/holistic route.

I agree with @kahuna. I think that it's not great if you're constantly saying "I can do that. I offer them".

We have specialised further into being the beauty salon that specialises in skincare without offering anything remotely described as invasive, so no botox, fillers etc. I'm happy now with what we offer. My daughter is probably going to do refresher training in electrolysis in the new year which we'll then offer but I'm all trained out at the moment.

The only thing I'm doing is refresher training. I actually like refresher courses because I really feel it solidifies my knowledge and I always retail more after refresher training.

I was going to do beauty therapy at first - so glad I didn't, the stories I've heard and read along the way I just don't think I could handle some of the situations that occur.....so the UPMOST RESPECT to all Beauty Therapists, I for one am glad you all exist, I'd be lost without you.

Hair extensions, i hear extentionists getting so much trouble being blamed by clients because they haven't looked after them properly and returned for proper maintenance :( would just stress meout far to much

Really enjoying reading your replies. There are only so many skills you can keep on top of aren't there. I love to train in new things to keep things interesting I guess but it's good to invest wisely rather than frivolously.

I was part way through a vtct aromatherapy diploma and the school I was doing it with closed. I'm gutted because I did most of the work but the time spent chasing them up took so long that I can't do my assessments at another school now because I'd have to do three full body massages and I can't massage these days due to health.

I spent a fair bit on product training and I don't regret it because it all helped me improve my skills and learn new techniques etc but I wish I'd been as prompt in taking my makeup training to level three (not done it yet but it's bucket list stuff lol). I should have said to myself "there's a world beyond this spa lark yannow" lol.

Some things I've trained in that were included on nvq courses but have never used. The nvq level 3 nail services diploma at the time included units on silk and fibreglass nails and airbrush nail art. Glad to have learnt it because I think that silk and fibreglass are underrated but with respect, I'm thinking that airbrush nail art is a bit dated due to there being quicker and easier ways to do good nail art. Also trained in facial electrics as part of my nvq 3 beauty but have never worked anywhere willing to invest in that side of things.

I'm a hairdresser and after about 13 years of doing hair, mobile, I decided to add on gel nails, and I'm so glad I did as I bring a lot in from it along side my hair services.
However, I thought I'd try to train in lash extensions, and wish I didn't as I know I will not make enough money for the time spent doing it, and being busy I don't have a lot of time to practice and get myself doing them in good time. I didn't spend a great deal though so I'm not too upset about it. I did learn how to lash lift and tint while I was learning the lashes, and I think once I've practiced a bit more that will be a good add on along side nails or hair.
I'm glad I didn't train in beauty like I was thinking one time though, I imagine it's not too easy being a mobile beautician with all the luggage and I love being mobile!

Totally agree with you re lashes. Am trained to tint, perm and do semi permanent ones but it's been mostly tint bookings throughout my career.

Was also looking into training in Hi Brow or similar at one point but I'm glad I didn't. It was the training in lycon hot wax that helped me with my brows. With good tinting and waxing skills I don't see a need to take on a brand.
