Hi Hope some of you lovely people can answer this question for me.

I trainer many moons ago in beauty only so have no idea about nails incase your wondering.

I was shopping with my sister in law yesterday and she popped into a salon to buy some fake bake tan. While she was there she mentioned that one of her natural (quite long) nails had broke at the side and she would have to cut it.

The nail tech said she could have it fixed in a jiffy. I watched as she buffed carols nail plate a bit to rough it up apparently, and then she produced a tube of LOCKTITE??? she put a tiny bit on the nail where the brake was and then took a little bit of kitchen paper and stuck it on top with some more glue. Waited a min then buffed it off and made it shiny with a 3 sided buffer.

Well now my sister in law thinks thats great and sooo quick but as I have said the is BAD. That or else this is a new technique that I have never ever heard of. Only posting this question as carol wants to go back and have a few treatments done but after seeing that I would wonder what kinda practices goes on in that salon.

No nail tech worth his or her salt would ever use Loctite, its not the same as nail adhesive which is the same as surgical adhesive, its resistant to water where as superglue is not, so there could well be an issue of a bacterial infection getting in under the glue. It is just not done and personally would not use the salon if that is the kind of thing they practice. Best to go to a nail salon who follow the correct procedure and use the proper tools for the job. Thats my opinion for what its worth.

The same thing can be done using resin and fabric....I would have just told her it was no big miracle and nothing new...but professional nail techs don't use super glue and kitchen roll...we have far better products to use with far better results..

Thanks guys. I just could not get over superglue and kitchen roll!

Well I'm not surprised! Barbaric. Hardly a new technique rather a VERY old one. The technician obviously hasn't a clue about the chemistry of adhesive or the other products they are using in the salon.
