Hi all hoping someone can help ? I have found a good tanning lotion at sally and love using it but I am finding that if I apply it once and then again in the week its ok for a while but it seems to come off in some places and not in others so I look kinda strange. I have also noticed that my legs look great for about a week but then they seem to go all cracked looking but without the craking (hope that makes sence) is this because i need to keep moisturizing or another reason? so my question is once you have got a great fake tan how do you look after it?

Tanning solutions these days are far more reliable than they used to be not so long ago.

Problems with an outcome of a tan are seldome due to the solution which tends to leave three other possibilities....poor application , poor skin quality(bad pre tan prep or simply bad dry skin etc) and inadequate post tan maintenance.

The problem you are experiencing could well be a combination of these things.

have you had proper training for the spray tan application itself and have you prepared the skin adequately.

It isn't normally a problem to add to a spray tan without having a build up problem however if the skin is not in a healthy condition this might occur...particularly if the solution you use is heavily fortified with initial colour guide.

Post tan you should keep to a strict moisturising regime (some solutions on the market will have a tendency to dry the skin which may result in the problems you are having as well as itching issues so keep moisturising.

It may be even better for you to apply moisturiser that contains DHA as a means to extending the life of your tan rather than topping up so frequently???

hi thanks for your reply . its not a spray tan its just out of a bottle sorry if I didnt make that understood, my fault. I didn't moisturize after I had applyed and i am getting drying and itching so it looks like I need to contiune to moisturize after application that maybe the problem?

I have this problem with lots of different lotions! It looks nice for a couple of days then goes patchy, particularly on my chest area......then when applied again it covers up then does it again...soooo annoying..I must be doing something wrong aswell!! xxxx

No problem....the three golden rules still apply

1)preparation :
Make sure you thoroughly ex-foliate before applying the cream..dont shave at least 24hrs before application...maybe apply a weak moisturiser the nigh before to any particularly dry skin..hands,elbows,knees etc

2)Application:
When applying the cream try the "less is more" route and make sure you throughly spread the cream evenly across the entire skins surface.Thoroughly wash your hands after application with a mild PH neutral soap.

3) post application care:
...make sure you moisturise regularly ...especialy to dry areas like elbows, knees etc..this will help reduce itching and may also extend the life of the tan and greatly assist with the fade off process thus avoiding patchiness and an uneven fade off.

Also avoid using perfume or deodorants and jewelry during the "setting" process cycle of the tan (up to 24hrs post application)as this can cause discolouration of the tan outcome.

oh im glad it not just me hope we find out what we can do to change it as I would like to continuasly use it without breaks especially in the summer time. I get the application right I exfoliate and mosturize before and then apply and I dont get streaks it looks great for about 3-4 days then starts to fade and thats when I want to add another coat (so to speak) but thats when i find it tends to look a bit strange?

if you are someone who likes to continuously apply a fake tan you might want to think about going over to a moisturiser which contains DHA additives.

Not the ones you buy from Boots as these only contain about 1% DHA additive ...source a professional brand as these do tend to have a much higher DHA content....up to as much as 6%
A bit dearer than the high street but given the additional tanning effect from the additional DHA content this might just be up your street.

There will be far less "cracking" on fade off and you can apply as much and as often as you wish without creating a build up .
Just a thought

fab will have to try that many thanks.
