Hi I have been a lurker here for a while and hope someone can give me some help.
I am currently at college doing my level 3 after completeting level 2 last year.
I have an interview for a part time job next week (my first beauty interview ever!) they only require level 2, I rang and spoke to the lady conducting the interview and she wants me to take a model in and do some filing, no problem, but she also wants me to do eyelash extentions, the thing is we did not do them as part as our course, we did them ONCE on each other in class as a fellow pupil requested it. I found them really fiddly and that they kept falling off. I have bought a set to practice on but do any of you think I should tell the lady as I dont want to appear incompetent. If it was ANYTHING else I would be real confident, any advice? Thanks in advance. (oh and do u think she will expect me to take any equpment in )

Just be upfront with her as then she may get you training to do it. Otherwise she will think you have trained and are just incompetent. You can't be expected to be able to do everything at first, especially if she means semi permanent lashes as these require a separate training course. She would not expect you to take any equipment unless she is taking you on as self employed.

I can't be much help other than saying good luck...I have a salon and had a trade test in yesterday, as well as having competent skills I was looking for a good personality and someone who would get along with the other people who work with me. Remember to keep a big smile on your face and you will do great. :) xx

Thanks for the advice:)

Just be open and honest about what you can and cant do, and stress the fact that you are willing to train in new areas and work hard. As already said - smile - it goes a long way! Try to relax and enjoy the experience and show that you can speak to everyone easily and take an interest in the salon and ask some questions. Good luck

If you cant do something, dont pretend you can, just be honest and show how good you can do the other things asked of you.

Good luck and dont stress.

I look for beautifully groomed, friendly, smiley therapists with a can-do approach. Be honest about your level of experience. A useful tip is to say that although you currently lack experience, you have heard that this salon is the best around, and would love to get the opportunity to learn from the best. (bit bum-licky, but works)

I'm with persianista here, manner accounts for a lot. When looking for therapists common sense, a desire to improve & an approachable demeanour count for a lot, and although a basic standard is desirable, many salons will want to train you to do things their way.
